["slow"]TRAVEL

Unless you are an avid traveler, and maybe not even then, you have probably never heard of the concept of “Slow Travel” . If you are familiar with “slow food,” it is slightly similar to that concept. “Slow Travel” is the idea of creating a travel experience that allows you to still feel like you have some sense of home even if you’re in a foreign country. It allows you to create a connection with a foreign country and build a bond. The concept is best implemented on trips that are a little more lengthy.

For example, if you were to travel to Europe, the way you would participate in “Slow Travel” is to pick a city to be your home base. Maybe this is your favorite city or the city with you favorite hotel. So, let’s say you pick Florence (Italy) to be your homebase. This means that you would travel to Florence and stay there for a few days, then pick your next destination, let’s say Rome, Italy, and then take a train to Rome. After you’ve stayed in Rome your desired amount of time, you then travel back to Florence, stay there for a few days, then pick a destination that is a little farther than Rome, let’s say Paris. Then you fly to Paris, stay there for a few days, and then go back to Florence. I’m sure you’re getting the idea…”Slow Travel,” is not just about that actual act of traveling, however. It also deals with what you do when you’re traveling, how you eat, how you sight see, etc.

The goal of “Slow Travel” is for you to slow down and revert back to the old-fashioned relaxed lifestyle. It is to avoid having that hectic travel vacation that you go from one thing to the next, to the next, without actually really appreciating where you are traveling to. “Slow Travel” allows you to also connect further with the culture of a place!
